Privacy
Genealogy MCP runs only on your computer.
Your GEDCOM and BegatAll files are read from the path you choose. They are not uploaded. The server does not open a network connection, and it does not send analytics or check for updates.
The server speaks only over standard input and output to the AI app you started it from. That app runs on your computer as well. This project does not add a cloud service. The AI app you connect it to may send tool results to its own cloud service under that app's terms.
Living people
Living people are hidden by default.
A person is treated as living when there is no death record and either of these is true:
- the birth year is within the last 100 years (the birth year is greater than or equal to this year minus 100), or
- there is no usable birth year and no death record
Hidden people are left out of search results, person records, relationship names, timelines, and resources. A count may say that a relative was hidden, without a name or id.
You can show living people on your own machine only:
-
Set the environment variable
GENEALOGY_MCP_SHOW_LIVINGto1(also accepted:true,yes, oron). Set it to0to hide them again. -
Or create a config file:
- Windows:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\genealogy-mcp\config.json - macOS and Linux:
~/.config/genealogy-mcp/config.json
- Windows:
{
"showLiving": true
}If the environment variable is set to a recognized value, it wins over the config file. There is no remote switch. Nothing in this setting leaves your computer, because the server has no network path.
